Withdrawal From Paris Agreement Won’t Stop Us

Within hours of President Trump’s cancellation of the Paris Agreement, 150 U.S. mayors representing 47 million Americans pledged to “adopt, honor, and uphold the commitments to the goals” of that Agreement and intensify efforts to meet climate goals. Additionally, 10 governors rejected the decision, and will convene an alliance of U.S. states that want to uphold the climate agreement.

Corporate leaders, including those at Apple, Tesla, Disney, General Electric, Facebook, Google, Wal-mart and Shell support the Paris Agreement … as do majorities of American voters in every state.

We remain hopeful, and encourage you to do the same. You can help by contacting state and local elected officials and urging them commit to reducing carbon emissions, purchasing a cleaner energy mix, and educating constituents on ways to reduce their environmental impact.

At home, you can lower your carbon footprint, as well. Elmhurst residential energy use is higher than averages in DuPage County and Illinois. Reducing your residential consumption benefits us all. For those who can afford to, consider adding solar panels or purchasing a fuel efficient car. For a smaller investment, consider conducting a home energy audit and upgrading your home’s efficiency, reducing your meat consumption, and making fewer purchases. Not only do these actions reduce your impact, they help save money at the same time. For more information on reducing your impact, join our Coalition or contact us for ways to help at the local level.

We’ve been focused on the climate for 10 years, and we will continue to do our part — for our own future and the next generation.
