Electric Aggregation allows governments to bundle – or aggregate – residential and small commercial retail electric accounts and seek bids for a cheaper, and posswind-turbineibly cleaner, source of power. Currently, ComEd customers receive electricity at a price set each year by the Illinois Power Agency, a governmental body that secures electricity on the wholesale market on behalf of ComEd. By bundling or aggregating residential and small commercial accounts, municipalities can go out into the open market to seek a lower rate for electric power.

The most important benefit of electricity aggregation is the opportunity for Elmhurst residents and small business owners to save money. Aggregation also offers municipalities the ability to negotiate a cleaner energy mix (a higher percentage of green energy from wind and solar), which supports Illinois’ green economy. Through Elmhurst’s current aggregated contract with Constellation Energy, residents automatically receive the benefits of 50% renewable energy through Renewable Energy Certificates (RECs). Customers interested in offsetting 100% of their energy supply with RECs can choose to do so at a rate of 7.58 cents/kWh for 36 months. Customers interested in increasing their support of clean energy must “opt up” by contacting the Constellation Call Center at 800/718-1493. Please have your account number ready when you place the call.
