It’s our Start In Your Yard Kick-Off Event, the Native Garden Tour!

In Nature’s Best Hope: A New Approach to Conservation That Starts In Your Yard, author Doug Tallamy urges homeowners to take environmental action into their own hands, one yard at a time, to restore critical ecosystems.

Join us on Sat., July 24, 9 a.m. – noon! If you did not RSVP for the tour, start at the Elmhurst Police Department’s garden to receive a tour map.

You’re encouraged to rewild and restore your own property with native plants, shrubs and trees, to help:

• Increase biodiversity and ecosystems;

• Beautify your landscape;

• Provide stormwater solutions;

• Reduce overall maintenance;

• and more!

Tour some or all six of the native gardens on your own and at your own pace, or join the Elmhurst Bike Club on a safe bike route to all six gardens. Bike helmets strongly encouraged.

Each garden will feature a knowledgeable host who is available to tell you more about the garden, individual plants, garden features and additional resources to help you Start In Your Yard.

The Native Garden Tour is the first of many educational programs and events revolving around Start In Your Yard, including a One Book, One Community read of Nature’s Best Hope in partnership with the Elmhurst Public Library, and a Doug Tallamy author visit sponsored by Friends of the Library.

Register is closed. If you did not register in time, start at the Elmhurst Police Department’s native garden to receive a map of the tour. For more information on the Tour or Start In Your Yard, contact us at 630-426-9789 or ecoolcities@gmail.com.
