We have a limited amount of time to prevent the worst impacts of climate change. We’re big fans of Project Drawdown, but so many of the solutions to save our planet are out of our control. Here are a few actions you can take right now to help reduce the worst effects of climate change in the months and years to come.

  1. LEARN MORE about climate change. Follow the science.
  2. BECOME A CLIMATE ADVOCATE. It’s important to talk to people about the climate crisis. Advocacy can start in your own household or with just one friend.
  3. BE A CLIMATE VOTER! Also, volunteer to help elect candidates at the local, state and national level who pledge to take bold action to reduce carbon emissions.
  4. SUPPORT A PLAN. Whether it’s The Green New Deal, a carbon tax or any of the other plans being offered, support a plan that calls for (radical) action on the climate crisis.
  5. FOLLOW THE MONEY. Understand who is funding the destruction of our planet.
  6. HOLD CORPORATIONS RESPONSIBLE. Did you know that just 100 companies have been the source of more than 70% of the world’s greenhouse gas emissions since 1988?
  7. DECREASE YOUR INDIVIDUAL CARBON FOOTPRINT in your household, in your methods of transportation, in your purchasing decisions.
  8. INVEST RESPONSIBLY. Divest from fossil fuel companies and the companies that fund them, and choose environmentally-responsible investments.
  9. JOIN OUR COALITION! We are Elmhurst residents, organizations, businesses and congregations working to create a more sustainable world.
